DPYG HISTORY

Daraga Parish Youth Group is an organization which aims to intensify youth’s social and spiritual participation so that they can become productive and responsible citizens of our community. The organization is one with the parish in its goal to bring the youth closer to our Lord. Youth must be equipped with the latest information, not just concerning the social aspect, moreover the spiritual way of living. A computer without a CPU is useless, therefore we can say, Life without God is Worthless.

By the year 1986, Daraga Parish Youth Group was established. The first core group was headed by Ms. Cynthia Lita together with her fellow officers and members. DPYG was then composed by different youth groups serving the parish, to be exact the Charismatic, Neo Catechumenate, OLGP, Youfra and Sunface. The group spearheaded many activities regarding the youth. This was also the time when Youth Encounter Program (YEP) was introduced. In 1987, Msgr. Ping Molina published the Youth Encounter- Facilitator Seminar Workshop (YE-FSW) module, as a guide for future Youth Encounter facilitators. Rev. Fr. Pinoy Templado was the parish priest in 1990 and Rev. Fr. Jude was the DPYG spiritual director. In 1991, it was Mr. Jun Miranda’s term when Rev. Fr. Oloy Lawenko organized a five-day Youth Encounter Program (YEP) at Sta. Rafaella, Sagpon, Daraga, Albay. On the same year, the 1st Padaraplusan Summer Olympics was materialized, composing of four teams namely: yellow, blue, red and green with four priests as their team leader. The following year 1992, Youth Encounter Program was held at the Mater Salutis Major Seminary, with the seminarians as the facilitators. During this year Bastonera, a comedy presentation was first showcased by Seminarian Jonathan Bailon, as the first performer. To deepen youth’s faith, series of Youth Encounter was done in 1993 during Ms. Ana M. Lorilla’s term as the DPYG coordinator with the help of some seminarians. Youth Encounter-Facilitator Seminar Workshop was held in 1995, it was a vicarial activity and many youth from Daraga attended. Rev. Fr. Weng Thomas was the Diocesan youth director during that time. In 1997, Ms. Mariz Llabore, the DPYG coordinator together with Ms. Ana Lorilla, the parish youth minister, started to conduct series of Youth Encounter throughout the barangays of Daraga. As a culminating activity Summer Camp was held within the church vicinity. It was the beginning, when youth coming from the barangays of Daraga became part of the group. That year Rev. Fr. Pinoy will be replaced by Rev. Fr. Weng as the new parish priest. But before he leaves us, He brought all the facilitators including some catechist who helped during the series of youth encounter to Fiat House, Catanduanes where YEP originated. In here they meet Msgr. Ping Molina, who gave them YE II, which is supposed to be the next step after the YE I, today we call this, New Evangelization Program (NEP). This is a very deep formation wherein youth must be prepared to surrender their life to God. After those experiences, trainings were done to prepare the next batch of youth leaders.

The new millennium is here and new set of officers was elected, Mr. Gary Kikim was the DPYG coordinator; it was the time when Suncafe decided to leave the group since most of them are young professionals but one person stayed up to now, many will live but she will remain, Architect Ana M. Lorilla. In 2002, series of youth encounter was revived through Ms. Aileen Mesa as the DPYG coordinator and Rev. Fr. Raleigh Siapno, the spiritual director. Seminarians also help during these activities: some of them were Seminarian Joseph Salando, Jonathan Bailon and Roger. The second YE-FSW and Summer Olympics was also held this year to showcase youth’s physical and spiritual alertness. The second Summer Youth Camp was done at Bascaran Elementary School, Bascaran, Daraga, Albay during Ms. Jane Lanuza’s term in 2003. Then it was followed at Inarado Elementary School, Inarado, Daraga, albay with the theme “I came not to serve but to serve,” on May 17-21, 2005 under Mr. Victor De Vera’s leadership. On May 15-19, 2006, Daraga Parish Youth Group conducted a five-day activity, “Yeper’s Summer Youth Camp and Reunion” at Mater Salutis Major Seminary, Sipi, Daraga, Albay, which was enjoyed by every participant; Mr. Jayson M. Basilla was the youth-in-charge.

Many activities were not recorded but in the lives of the people who became part of this group, memories will always be as fresh as the water in the river. Things may past, but one thing will remain, it’s the realizations and learning they had because these things help them in achieving their goals in life.

LITERATURA

“ARAGOMAN”

An pag-agom bakong karaw-karaw,
Kaipuhan an maninigong kaaraman,
Saro ining responsibilidad na hangang paggurang,
Dai mo nanggad mababayaan.

Alagad an ibang kajovenesan,
Orog na itong daing inadalan,
Asin mayong toltol na ikabubuhay,
Iyo pa lugod an amay magpatipan.

Nyata? Ano an saindang paghona,
Ini sarong kawatan,
Na pagnasawa tulos na babayaan?
Tibaad sinda nalilibongan!

Mas nakakabalde, itong may mga inadalan,
Na pagkatapos paadalon kan mga magurang,
Imbes na tumabang,
Iba man an pig-asikaso sa buhay.

Minsan an iba nagpupuon ,
Sa simpleng pag-irilusyon,
Aldaw-banggi magkaiba,
Hanggang sa pagturog yaon pa!

Marhay kun an mag-agom,
Responsible asin may dedekasyon,
Nagtatao kan mga pangangaipo,
Asin may pagkamoot na totoo.

An pagpamilya sarong magaya-gayang bagay,
May kaogmahan asin pagtarabang-tabang,
Alagad tamang panahon an kaipuhan,
Tanganing ini gabos manamitan.

Kaya mga manoy asin mga manay,
Kun bako pang handa sa buhay,
Gumilid na muna asin mag-adal,
Ta dakul ka pang dapat maaraman.

Asin kun mag-abot an aldaw,
Na igwa ka na ki ikabubuhay,
Dai na pagbutasan an saimong namomotan,
Ta an masunod kaiyan aragoman.
